1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Synergy Tecnologia Ltda. (CNPJ 51.033.169/0001-89), doing business as “The Bible Explained” (“The Bible Explained,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your use of thebibleexplained.app, its members area, and any related apps and services we provide (together, the “Service”).
By creating an account, buying a membership, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
2. What the Service is
The Bible Explained is a growing library of short videos that explain the Bible, passage by passage, each with a written summary of its key ideas, along with tools to pace your reading, such as daily goals and streaks. A few videos are free to watch without an account; the other videos that are out are for members.
The library isn’t finished, and it doesn’t yet cover the whole Bible. Videos come out in Bible order as they’re finished, and books that aren’t out yet are marked as coming soon. The library and the FAQ show what’s out today. A membership gives you the videos that are out while it’s active, and new videos as they’re released, at no extra cost. It doesn’t entitle you to any particular book or video, or to a release by any particular date. Any plans or estimates we share are just that, not promises.
We use software tools, including generative AI, to help make parts of the Service, such as illustrations. However carefully it’s made, the content may contain mistakes. If you spot one, please tell us at luis@synergytec.com.br.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account and buy a membership. Teenagers between 13 and 18 may use the Service with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. Children under 13 may watch only alongside a parent or guardian, on that adult’s account; we don’t knowingly create accounts for children under 13.
You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe and for activity under your account. A membership is for you and the people in your household; please don’t share your account outside it. Tell us right away at luis@synergytec.com.br if you think someone else is using your account.
4. Memberships and billing
- Plans. A membership costs $8 a month or $72 a year, in US dollars, unless a different price is shown when you buy. Both plans include every video that’s out, and new videos as they’re released.
- Payments. The Bible Explained is the seller of your membership. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor; your card details go to Stripe and never reach our servers. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method for the membership and any applicable taxes.
- Automatic renewal. Memberships renew automatically at the end of each month or year, at the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Canceling. You can cancel at any time from your account menu (“Manage membership”). Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
- Price changes. We may change membership prices. We’ll tell you in advance, and a new price applies from your next renewal after the notice period required by law.
- Taxes. Prices don’t include taxes; where tax applies, it’s added at checkout.
- Promotion codes. Discounts and promotion codes apply only as described when they’re offered, have no cash value, and can’t be combined unless we say so.
- Where memberships are sold. Memberships aren’t currently offered in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein, and may not be bought from there. The free videos remain available everywhere.
5. Refunds
- 14-day window. If The Bible Explained isn’t for you, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of your first paid charge, for any reason. The window applies to the first charge only.
- Renewals. Later renewal charges, monthly or annual, aren’t refundable and we don’t refund partial periods, except as described below or where the law requires. Canceling stops the next renewal.
- A renewal you forgot to cancel. Write to us within 7 days of the charge. If you have barely used the Service since, we’ll usually refund it as a one-time courtesy.
- We always refund duplicate or mistaken charges, charges made without your authorization (tell us promptly so we can secure your account), and periods in which a lasting failure on our side kept you from using the Service.
- Accounts closed for breaking these Terms aren’t refunded, unless the law requires it.
To ask for a refund, email luis@synergytec.com.br from the address on your account, with the date and amount of the charge (the Stripe receipt helps). We aim to reply within 2 business days. Refunds go back to the original payment method; your bank may take 5–10 business days to show them. If your local law gives you a stronger right to a refund, that law applies.
6. Using the videos
While your membership is active, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to stream the videos and read the written guides for non-commercial purposes. That includes watching with your household, and showing a video in person to a Bible study, small group, or class you lead, as long as no one is charged to attend.
You agree not to:
- Download, record, copy, or redistribute the videos or guides, or upload, broadcast, or livestream them, without our written permission.
- Use the content for commercial purposes, or charge others to watch it.
- Get around the measures that protect the videos, such as signed links, or share them with people who aren’t members.
- Scrape the Service, access it by automated means, or use its content to train machine-learning models.
- Interfere with the Service’s security or operation, or use it to break the law or harm others.
For other uses, such as showing videos at a larger church event, write to us at luis@synergytec.com.br. We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
7. Our content and intellectual property
The Service, including the videos, narration, written guides, illustrations, design, software, and the The Bible Explained name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Scripture quoted in the Service comes from public-domain translations, and our rights don’t extend to the public-domain text itself. Except for the license above, these Terms don’t give you any rights in our content.
8. About the teaching
The videos explain what the Bible says, its historical background, and how Christians have understood it over the centuries. They are educational, aren’t the official teaching of any church or denomination, and may not reflect the views of yours. They aren’t a substitute for pastoral care, or for medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy. We don’t promise that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any particular book or video will be released, or by a particular date.
Some places don’t allow certain warranties to be excluded; there, these exclusions apply only as far as the law permits.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to the Service, even if we were told they were possible.
Our total liability for all claims related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or US$100. Some places don’t allow these limits; there, they apply only as far as the law permits.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify The Bible Explained and its officers, employees, and agents against claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
12. Termination
You can stop using the Service and cancel your membership at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, or if we have to for legal or security reasons. If we stop offering the Service altogether, we’ll refund the unused part of any prepaid period. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, such as ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law, will survive.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods doesn’t apply.
Disputes will be brought before the courts of the District of São Paulo, State of São Paulo, Brazil, except where the law (including Brazil’s Consumer Defense Code, Law No. 8.078/1990) lets a consumer bring a claim in the courts of their own domicile; in that case, that right prevails.
Before starting formal proceedings, please write to us at luis@synergytec.com.br so we can try to resolve the matter informally within 30 days.
14. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may change, suspend, or stop parts of the Service, and we may update these Terms. If a change is material, we’ll tell you by email or on the Service before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms; if you don’t, you can cancel your membership.
15. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
- Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a provision isn’t a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms without our written consent; we may transfer them, for example as part of a sale of the business.
- Force majeure. We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Language. These Terms are written in English, and the English version is the binding one.
